History and background of the Municipal Committee
MUNICIPAL COMMITTEE CHAKWAL
Chakwal has a rich historical background dating back to ancient civilizations, including Hindu Shahi and Mughal periods. The area gained prominence during the time of Mughal Emperor Babur, who passed through nearby regions such as Kallar Kahar. During British rule, Chakwal remained part of District Jhelum and later became an independent district in 1985. With urban growth, Municipal Committees were established to manage civic services under the Punjab Local Government framework.
